The rest targets multi-night use: 11 h of battery life, 225 GB of storage, 30 slots, built-in dew heater, 5 kg and a 5-year warranty, with no subscription. If you want a device whose behaviour is already documented by reviewers, the Vespera III or the Vespera II are the safer routes. If assisted visual observation matters more than photography, the Unistellar eQuinox 2 answers a different logic for a comparable budget.

What it actually delivers in the field
Deep sky
This is the intended use, and the specification argument is coherent: a 12.5 MP square sensor at 1.6″/px on a 50 mm f/4.9 quadruplet, with a stated limiting magnitude of 16. The counterpart of a 50 mm aperture is that reaching faint targets requires long cumulative exposures, which is precisely what the 11 h of battery life, the 225 GB and the 30 multi-night slots make possible. Whether the rendering matches the specification is exactly what no published test has yet established.
Moon and Sun
With a 1.6° field, the Moon at roughly half a degree occupies about a third of the image: the full disc fits comfortably, but the 1.6″/px sampling limits detail on small craters. For the Sun the optional solar filter is required, as no filter is built in.
Planets
At 1.6 arcseconds per pixel, a planet a few tens of arcseconds wide covers only a few tens of pixels, and no optics compensate for sampling that coarse. The f/4.9 quadruplet and its 2 µm photosites are aimed at wide field, not planetary imaging.
Square sensor and 50 MP mosaic: what it changes about framing
A 3536 × 3536 sensor has no orientation. You never have to choose between portrait and landscape before an acquisition, and the final crop is decided afterwards in processing rather than in the field. The CovalENS mosaic adds the other half of the equation: field extended to 4.18° × 2.45° and definition to 50 MP, a wide format suited to very extended complexes, at the cost of a longer session.

Vespera Pro 2 vs Unistellar Odyssey Pro
The Odyssey Pro costs $4,599, which is $1,609 more in the US, and plays a different game: 85 mm of aperture against 50 mm, and an OLED eyepiece co-developed with Nikon that restores an at-the-eye observing experience Vaonis does not offer. The Pro 2 answers with definition. The Odyssey Pro justifies itself if the observing experience counts as much as the final image; otherwise the Vespera Pro 2 delivers more pixels for $1,609 less.
Vespera Pro 2 vs Celestron Origin Mark II
The Celestron Origin Mark II at $4,299 is in another category: a 152 mm RASA at f/2.2 with an 8.3 MP IMX678. The aperture and the very fast focal ratio shorten exposures; against that, 18.87 kg versus 5 kg and $1,309 more. The Origin Mark II is a fixed-station or car-boot instrument, the Vespera Pro 2 one you carry on foot. That difference, not definition, is what should decide it.

Most affordable: the Seestar S30 at $399, to get started without committing. The Hestia sits below it but is a smartphone optic rather than a telescope.
